Bridge End Garden - A Hidden Gem
Tucked away behind Castle Street in Saffron Walden is the
hidden gem - Bridge End Garden.
It’s hard to believe approximately 7 acres of beautifully
manicured, linked ornamental gardens can be so discreetly positioned. A Secret
Garden
The gardens were created by Francis Gibson, a local Quaker
businessman.
The restored Victorian gardens are Grade II* listed and
are set out in distinct rooms, all individual and ‘interlocking rooms’. Parts
of the garden feel especially secret and hidden and have a very calming and
enchanting charm about them.
The gardens include: The Dutch Garden, Wilderness, Rose
Garden, Jacob's Well, Poets' Corner, Summerhouse Lawn, Walled Garden and The
Hedge Maze.
The gardens are owned by the Fry Family and leased to
Saffron Walden Town Council with the support of the small charity ‘The Friends
of Bridge End Gardens’. If you’d like to volunteer visit www.bridgeendgarden.co.uk
There are many beautiful old trees and interesting plants
and statues throughout the gardens. It’s a quiet haven for wildlife.
The spring flowers are currently in bloom and
look very pretty.
It’s an idyllic place to visit.
Entrance to the gardens is free.
Please only go out alone or in family groups, and stay 2 metres away from other visitors. Please follow the latest government guidance on social distancing.
Thank you,
Saffron Walden Museum.
